Welcome
Somatic Psychotherapy with Gabby Yates, AMFT
Somatic psychotherapy invites the wisdom of your body to take up space in therapy, to be seen, felt, and heard when you are ready. It is a co-created and generative approach to therapy and healing that integrates relational and body awareness to help relieve emotional distress and support greater ease in your life and relationships. If you are curious and you find yourself here ready to begin or deepen the practice of listening to the wisdom of your body, you’re in the right place.
Meet Gabby
I’m here to support the unfurling of the fullest embodiment of you.
I’m here to help tether you to your inner and outer resources while talking about or feeling into your struggles and strengths.
I’m here to recognize and name with you wounds or trauma caused by interpersonal and/or structural harm.
I’m here to reflect with you if repair and somatic reconciliation feel resourcing.
I’m here in solidarity with the parts of you that feel murky or stuck and are seeking clarity and reclaimation.
I’m here as a generative force to believe in the changes you want to make in your life.
I’m here to help hold grief and celebrate your insight, growth, and healing.
I am a registered associate somatic psychotherapist dedicated to the persistent pursuit of understanding the ways our bodies, families, and communities remember and cultivate wholeness and well-being. In support of our wholeness, I bring culturally responsive somatic and relational approaches, along with a psychodynamic lens, to therapy with individuals, couples, families, children, and teens.
My studies and clinical experience include somatic psychotherapy, infant and maternal wellness, and early childhood development. My training in Relational Somatic Healing (RSH) and conflict transformation informs the way I approach attachment, emotional attunement, and nervous system regulation to promote embodied healing and trauma resolution.
In my work with children and families, I draw on my clinical studies and extensive experience in infant and early childhood mental health to deepen the parent–child bond. As a mother, I understand the ongoing mental and emotional dance of balancing our own needs with our children’s needs in order to show up with presence and connect with them in their world.
My approach emphasizes supporting children in learning to recognize and express their feelings, while helping parents attune more fully to their child’s needs to strengthen secure attachment. I provide a safe, supportive environment that integrates relational, somatic and sensory lenses and is infused with play, curiosity and mindful inquiry. Together, we work to develop shared narratives, strengthen co-regulation, and cultivate emotional regulation skills.
My presence is warm and playful, and I invite you to show up exactly as you are. My goal is to support you through life transitions, trauma recovery, chronic illness, relational challenges, parenting, intergenerational healing, and joy, so that you can move toward greater ease, connection, and wholeness with yourself and others.
My formal education includes Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Somatics from the California Institute of Integral Studies, as well as a Master’s degree in Conflict Transformation from SIT Graduate Institute. I completed my clinical training in somatic psychotherapy at the Center for Somatic Psychotherapy in San Francisco.
In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I serve on the advisory board of a birth justice organization, founded a wellness justice nonprofit, and facilitate trauma-informed yoga training for birth workers. I bring over 20 years of experience teaching and studying therapeutic yoga modalities, as well as a 25-year career supporting communities impacted by structural inequality, war, and forced migration both locally and globally
Some of my areas of focus include:
*major life transitions, anxiety, depression, anger, chronic illness/pain, intimacy and communication, sexual trauma, developmental trauma, issues stemming from oppression and privilege, co-dependency, shame, postpartum depression/anxiety, and issues relating to parenting/motherhood/birthing people and spiritual growth, ancestral healing and intergenerational trauma.
I am a anti-racist, and LGBTQ+, kink, and gender queer-affirming therapist. My fee is $175/50 minutes.
